Steam wishlist cleaning 2026
Wishlist cleaning! For the unacquainted, Steam has a wishlist feature where you can put the games you want to buy, like a lot of digital storefronts. It also serves a nefarious capitalist purpose of letting publishers know what game they should invest on and so it becomes one of those many disgusting "metrics" that people with uncomfy suits like talking about soooo much, but that's not the point. I mean, it kinda is, since a lot of stuff goes into my wishlist to "help the developers get seen" or whatever I tell myself to pretend I'm doing my part...
Anyhoo. My wishlist has grown to gargantuan proportions and I've been trying to keep it under control by trimming it down every now and then. For reasons many, among them a) my backlog is also huge even though I mostly don't buy games anymore1, b) tastes and wishes change over time; and c) somethings are now available and were in my wishlist mostly because I thought the concept was cool and decided to feed the metrics demon during the game's development period.
The thing is, just because I'm removing a game of my wishlist doesn't mean I think it doesn't deserve a shot. I just won't be the one shooting. I used to try to recommend them to close friends whenever I kicked them off the wishlist, but now I can note the games down in the blog in hopes that someone else finds something they think is cool. I'll try to emphasize why some of these caught my attention in the first place or justify the wishlist exclusion in detail when I feel like it.
So, by category of reason why it's leaving the wishlist, here they are.
"I don't play fighting games anymore"
Not much to say about these ones, if someone invited me to play one of them I totally would, but they are not "on my wishlist".
"Wait I already have this game"
- My partner has Marvel's SpiderMan Remastered and it's very expensive, so I'll probably play her's.
- Same for The Case of the Golden Idol, except it's not expensive and we'll likely play it together.
- I got Night in the Woods in a bundle a long time ago.
"I should have some self-respect and stop putting more Ace Attorney games on my wishlist until I actually buy and play the first one ffs"
Self explanatory.
"I actually don't like farming that much"
- Slime Rancher 2 is as adorable as the first one, but I gave up on the first due to, well, not liking farming very much.
- Grimoire Groves
- Reka is not actually a farming game but the dynamic is there. I used to follow the devs on twitter back in the day because the vibes of the game were just so great.
- Fruitbus is another one that has the farming dynamics, even though is not really about farming. I think it looks fantastic though.
- Moonstone Island
"Even though I still like giant robots I don't see myself playing these anytime soon"
Also self-explanatory. Gone are the days of looking at spreadsheets to translate Gundam Breaker 2 parts' specs on the PS3, but there are still some mecha games on my wishlist.
"After 700 well-spent hours of Deep Rock Galactic, I'm done with multiplayer online shooters (except for Deep Rock Galactic)"
I really should do a post on DRG sometime.
- Abyssus
- Tiny Tina's Wonderlands has a lot of flare and seemed like an interesting take on the Borderlands formula, but it will only get a chance if I ever finish Borderlands 3. I don't think I will finish Borderlands 3.
- I did well not getting caught by the hype of Warhammer 40000: Space Marine 2. I would have likely enjoyed my few hours with it, but all my friends urging me to buy it on launch haven't mentioned it since - and it's still very expensive.
- Nightingale has some very nice creature designs.
- Remnant II
"Too souls for my liking"
I think most of these games ended up on my wishlist through dev posts on social media. They all look nice.
"I'm not sure what would draw me to a roguelite these days"
Roguelite fatigue? Roguelite fatigue.
- Chenso Club
- The first one was cool enough for me to wishlist 30XX, but I think I'd just rather play Megaman-inspired games that aren't rouguelites. I would bet it's a great game anyway.
- I think it's really cool when games let you control your enemies like RAM: Random Access Mayhem does.
- Dandy Ace
- Toads of the Bayou
- Chrysalis also let's you control enemies and has cooler vibes than RAM, in my imo.
- Dreamscaper
"This concept kicks ass, but..."
- I am so glad REMATCH exists, because it means someone also looked at the world of mainstream football computer games and thought "there's no way people actually like football simulators that play like shit for the sake of realism, football games could be so cool". However, I'm not really an online pvp kind of person.
- PROXIMATE has this great concept of interacting blindly with the world, but I don't really play horror games. Too scary.
Multiplayer game grab-bag
- While Monaco was pretty neat, it was not neat enough for me to get Monaco 2.
- The Jackbox Party Pack 9 will eventually get bought when someone says "wow it's been a while since we last played some jackbox" and suggests we all cash in for a new one.
- I remember playing King of the Hat when they made the questionable decision of launching for free on the weird Discord games' storefront. It's pretty fun.
- My last hours of Baldur's Gate 3 tell me that Stolen Realm will not be in my future, even if I love co-op strategising.
Single-player game grab-bag
- While I am in a "walking around looking at cute things" vibe, Time on Frog Island's aesthetics are not the ones I'm the most inclined towards right now.
- SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated is very well regarded among friends and people on the internet, but I wasn't really a SpongeBob fan growing up.
- I really dig the magical nature idea that Albatroz has going on, but the gameplay doesn't seem like something I'd be after.
- Phoenotopia: Awakening was a general recommendation by a friend that I kept on the wishlist for later and it does seem like a good game, but not like a game I would like.
- Death Trash seems a bit too punk (and strategic) for me.
Hopefully one of these will leave my wishlist and join yours.

I made a pact with the god of purchases that I wouldn't buy new games until I had played all the games that I already had and wanted to play. Exceptions included Hollow Knight Silksong and Slay The Spire 2 (when I found out that it had multiplayer). Exceptions will include The Big Catch when it comes out.↩
